Build A Hooper is a basketball player builder you play in the browser. Across ten rounds you assemble a player from DNA packages drawn from historical inputs through the 2021–22 season, read the trade-offs as the build takes shape, and then watch a fictional season play out.
What is a basketball player builder?
A basketball player builder is a game where you assemble a player from component traits instead of picking a finished star. In Build A Hooper, each of ten rounds offers three DNA packages with an upside and a trade-off, so the build reflects your choices rather than a single rating.
How the builder works
- Choose a position. PG, Wing, or Big. Your position changes how the game reads fit and role pressure — it does not force one correct build.
- Draft ten DNA packages. Each round offers three candidates built from historical inputs. Every package pairs an upside with a trade-off, and two board refreshes give you a way out — not an unlimited reroll.
- Make three Big Calls. During a fictional season you respond to an opening month, a midseason slump, and playoff pressure. The outcome reflects the build and the calls, inside the published game rules.
What a DNA package is
A DNA package is a game choice that combines an upside, a trade-off, and a fit signal. Instead of taking a single isolated rating, you decide whether a package's strengths are worth the costs it adds elsewhere. The packages and their labels are original assessments created by Build A Hooper — they are not measurements issued by any league.
Where the inputs come from
The boards draw on historical player identities and source inputs through the 2021–22 season. Three layers stay separate on every screen: historical facts, site-created assessments such as DNA bands and fit labels, and fictional simulation output such as season ranges and outcomes. The archive does not extend past the 2021–22 season.
What your build becomes
As you draft, the fit view shows an emerging identity, balance, floor and ceiling bands, and red flags. After the season, a report explains what the build did well, what it exposed, and one change to try on the next run. Grades come in bands, not 0–99 numbers — the game is built to be read, not min-maxed.
