Every DNA package in Build A Hooper pairs an upside with a trade-off, so a build is a record of decisions rather than a pile of ratings. This guide explains how to read costs, fit bands, and red flags while you draft — and how to match your three season calls to the player you actually assembled.
Why every strength has a cost
A package that stretches the floor can add stamina pressure. A package that raises your creation ceiling can add volatility. The cost is not a punishment — it is what makes the next pick a decision instead of a formality. If a board looks like three free upgrades, read it again.
Read the fit view while you draft
The fit view is not a score to maximize. It shows an emerging identity, position fit, balance, floor and ceiling bands, synergies, and red flags after each pick. Use it to check direction: does this package extend what you have, or does it fight it? A build that coheres at band level usually outperforms a build that chases the highest label in every round.
Three trade-off patterns worth learning
- Upside versus stability. High-ceiling packages widen your range of outcomes in both directions. Take them early, when later picks can still cover the downside.
- Role fit versus raw strength. A strong package that clashes with your position fit creates friction the season will expose. Fit is multiplicative, not decorative.
- Now versus later. Some packages help the opening month; others matter under playoff pressure. The three Big Calls reward builds that know which phase they were assembled for.
Let the season calls fit the build
Opening Month, Midseason Slump, and Playoff Pressure each offer three responses. The model reads each call against the build you made: a fragile high-upside build and a steady two-way build should not answer a slump the same way.
